Being SMART in 2020

SMART objectives are nice. It was invented back in 1981 and stayed relevant since then. Because everybody agrees that having Specific, Measurable, Acceptable, Realistic and Time-bound projects is important. But 38 years have passed…

Fortunately we are now figuring out that there’s something else to what makes teams performant and engaged. Indeed, while clear goals are still important, knowing why those goals are set is as important if not more important nowadays.

And I’m convinced it will inevitably become more and more important with the rise of automation, artificial intelligence and robots that will replace a lot of jobs. That’s why being smart in 2019 probably means to drive your teams with the “why” and make your organisation future-proof.

It means taking down the purpose stated on that poster on the wall, reviewing it and placing it very concretely at the center of every daily decision of a team and of the organization. Because when there won’t be any accountants, jurists or even maybe consultants left, the companies that will thrive will be those who could adapt because they knew why they did things and found creative ways to ensure they pursued it despite everything changing.

It just so happens that we at Clarity Upgrades can help you with that, so don’t hesitate to reach out to us !
